It looks like this device would add about 3 inches of shoulder belt slack during an impact. The belt would rip out of the device when tension is placed on the belt after an impact (all well and good) but when the belt releases from the device the belts will not have time to retract and take up the slack.

The Z32s do not have gas generator belt pre-tensioners and that extra three inches of slack is going to make for one hell of a jolt when your accelerating (energy building) body comes to a very abrupt halt against the slack belt when it locks in the extended position.

A lot of modern high end cars (and all high performance military aircraft) have gas generator (explosive) belt pre-tensioners to prevent this effect. Especially with a 1990 (pre-SRS) this could be a matter of life or death.

Great idea (Bernie installed 1994+ shoulder belts on my 1993TT) but not for me.

Good luck.
